Dome Hills Station and the lodge are easily accessible by road, an easy 45 minutes drive from Oamaru. There is also a helicopter pad.

The lodge is handy to a variety of local activities and attractions. These include the nearby Tokarahi Golf Course, the Vanished World Fossil Trail and Elephant Rocks where Chronicles of Narnia was filmed. The Danseys Pass and Maraewhenua River provide rattling rocks and good fishing. Duntroon with its Maori rock art, Kurow and the renowned collectibles shop, the beautiful lakes and power stations of the Waitaki Valley, historic Oamaru, the blue penguin colony and the yellow-eyed penguin colony are all within easy driving distance. There is skiing at Ohau, iceskating at Naseby, Moeraki Boulders and seals at the lighthouse.

Directions:
• Go to Duntroon on SH83, 36 kms northwest of Oamaru.
• Just before the bridge at entrance to Duntroon turn left into Livingstone-Duntroon road, sign posted to Danseys Pass.
• Drive for 12 kms staying on Livingstone-Duntroon road.
• At entrance to Danseys Pass, veer left up hill which is still Livingstone-Duntroon road and drive 2.9kms to Livingstone.
• Go through Livingstone and straight ahead onto McKenzie road, driving 6.7kms on gravel road to Dome Hills Station. Sign is on front gate, and the Lodge is just around the corner.
